Sliema has a great spread of restaurants for all sorts of tastes and budgets, which makes it a fun place for English students to eat out and keep practising the language at the same time. Here are a few spots in Sliema you really shouldn’t miss:

Ta’ Kris

Ta KrisSet in a charming old bakery, Ta’ Kris has a warm, rustic feel and serves traditional Maltese food. The menu is full of hearty dishes like rabbit stew, bragioli (beef olives) and lampuki pie (fish pie). The staff are friendly and the setting is homey, so it’s an easy place to practise your English while you tuck into proper local flavours. 

Il-Merill

Il-MerillIl-Merill is another lovely find for traditional Maltese cooking. It’s a cosy, family-run place with friendly service and a welcoming feel. A good spot to chat with locals and pick up a bit about Maltese culture and food while you enjoy dishes like fish soup and stuffed aubergines. 

The Chophouse

The ChophouseIf you fancy something a bit fancier, The Chophouse is one of Sliema’s top steakhouses, with lovely views over Valletta’s skyline. The menu has plenty of grilled meats and fresh seafood. It’s a touch pricier, but the food and the setting make it well worth it for a special occasion or a group night out. 

Café Sicilia

Sicilia serves Italian and Mediterranean dishes. It’s known for its pasta, pizza and seafood, and it’s a nice place to eat while you take in the buzz of Sliema. The outdoor seating is perfect for people-watching and getting chatting with the folks at the next table.

Wigi’s Kitchen

WigisJust a stone’s throw from Maltalingua, Wigi’s Kitchen is a family-run restaurant with warm hospitality and excellent Mediterranean food. The menu uses fresh, locally sourced ingredients and changes with the daily specials. It’s a great place to enjoy a really good meal and practise your English with the attentive staff.

Getting out and trying Sliema’s restaurants gives English students a proper taste of the local culture, and plenty of chances to practise the language. Whether you go for traditional Maltese fare or something international, the restaurants here serve up good food and a welcoming spot to learn and socialise.
