Interview with Bernice
Maltalingua’s Junior Programme Manager
Our summer junior programme officially starts on the 7th of June, we decided to catch up with Bernice, our junior programme manager to find out what it takes to run a junior programme in an English Language School!
What made you choose a job in Education?
I always aimed for a career that would add a positive value to one’s life experience. My family always taught me to treasure what I learn in life because no one can take that away from me. These values were instilled in me from a young age and I want to pass this onto others. Working in education seemed like the ideal place for me to help form and encourage young minds!
What do you think it takes to run a junior programme in an English language school?
I believe that the most important trait to have is the motivation to create lifetime and memorable experiences. Once you have the drive to create these unique moments, the rest will flow naturally. The attributes that are necessary to run the junior programme are patience, prioritising, delegating, having the mentality to work hard and strong organisational skills.
Whilst it is impossible to foresee the future, it’s imperative to trust your instincts to ensure that all the necessary precautions are always in place, especially with regards to health and safety. I believe that finding a balance in the junior programme is very important. A balance between having fun but doing so in a moderated environment and adopting a disciplined manner when necessary.
As Maltese, you probably know the island very well. How much did your local knowledge help you when organising the junior programme?
Oh yes, definitely. Living on a small island and having had experience in tourism lead me to have a great network with the vendors in Malta. In addition to having inside knowledge of the hidden gems on the island, I have been lucky to secure exciting locations and activities for the Maltalingua students. We even have our own beach club for this summer, walking distance from the school, which we are really excited about!
As the junior programme manager, what would you tell parents sending their kids to Maltalingua?
I admire any parent who makes the decision to send their children abroad as it will be an experience that they will never forget. It will open their minds to a different culture, give them the opportunity to make new friends and feel independent and more confident.
We are like a family at Maltalingua and the happiness and safety of our family is the most important. Our group leaders are carefully selected to ensure that they are perfect for one of the most important roles. We offer a fun yet educational leisure programme, and interactive English lessons, with highly trained and experienced teachers. Malta is safe and it is a country I am very proud of! I know the beauty of this island and the friendliness of the locals is something everyone should experience. Your children will be in very good hands, they are my priority and I can’t wait to start this language journey together.
