Reinhard Maier, 'the Bavarian Barbarian', learns English in Malta!
In November 2024, we were lucky enough to have Reinhard Maier studying English with us. He competes in the World’s Strongest Man events. Here are some superlative questions and answers with one of the world’s strongest men!
1. Reinhard, what was your best achievement in the world’s strongest man competitions?
In 2019, I finished second place in the Ultimate Strongman Masters World Championships in Belfast.
2. What is the most difficult event for you in the competition?
The hardest event for me is pulling a truck for 30 metres!
3. What was your heaviest weight?
The heaviest I’ve ever weighed is one hundred and sixty kilos!
4. What’s the funniest event in the world’s strongest man competitions?
The funniest event is lifting two portable toilets on the shoulders, without people inside!
5. What is the best event in the competition for you?
My best event is stone lifting. The best I ever did was lift one-hundred-and-eighty-kilo stones to a one metre high platform five times in a row!
6. When was your earliest competition?
I was thirty-seven years old in my first competition!
7. What’s the most important thing when training for the world’s strongest man competitions?
You must find a balance in your weight so you a big and strong but you also have good respiration.
8. When are you most focused?
My best focus is during competitions.
9. What’s more difficult, being the world’s strongest man, or learning English?!
Hahaha! Definitely learning English!
10. What’s the hardest part of learning English for you?
I think using the right tense and listening to different accents is the most difficult thing for me!
We loved having Reinhard with us during his English course in Malta. He mixed group classes with private lessons and studied as hard as he trains, all to push his level up. We wish him the very best with his English and with his next competitions.
